Students in Mrs. Lindsay's Spanish Class celebrated the coming of spring by breaking a pinata.  In Spain, the Spanish adopted the pinata tradition now referring to the first Sunday of Lent as "The Dance of the Pinata."  The participant, who is blindfolded, represents good opposing evil by having faith which was blind. They are spun around and try to break the pinata which is filled with treats. Infinite Campus Move

KDE and Infinite Campus have recently decided to move all of the district's Infinite Campus servers from Frankfort to the Infinite Campus data center.

This means two things for staff, students, and parents:

First, Infinite Campus will be unavailable from 12/23/16 until 12/30/16.

Second, once the move is complete the address for the site will change for both the application page as well as the parent portal.

This will mean that bookmarks and icons pointing to the current address will not work after the switch over. You will want to delete these to prevent confusion after we return from winter break.

We will update the district page during that week so the link on the webpage will work.

The new addresses will be:

https://kyede4.infinitecampus.org/campus/garrard.jsp  - PRODUCTION APPLICATION URL

https://kyede4.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/garrard.jsp - PARENT PORTAL APPLICATION URL

This will not affect the mobile app.

"Together United"*GCHS Spanish and French Classes

French and Spanish students at Garrard County High School gave a tribute today for a memorial to those who were victims recently during the latest ISIS terrorist attacks in Belgium.  French students made a trilingual, Belgium flag that stated “Together United” while Spanish students gave famous quotes about the importance of diversity and peace.  All students, then, folded a huge handkerchief using the quote “El Mundo es Un Pañuelo” or “The World is as a Handkerchief,” so when one hurts, we all are harmed for our handkerchief is not as strong.  In other words, the globe is like a handkerchief and we are all part of a fold.  Also, students discussed how all humans share not only language connections, but oneness in many shared foods and traditions.  The World Language Department grieved the loss of our Belgium friends and mourned the lack of peace on our planet.

St. Patrick's Day Tradition - Mrs. Lindsay's Spanish Class

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated every year on March 17th, honoring the Irish patron saint, St. Patrick. The celebrations are largely Irish culture themed and typically consist of wearing green, parades, and drinking. Another tradition that is celebrated is the game of "Horseshoe."  This American passtime comes to us from Ireland and the horseshoe is believed to bring good luck.

Ky. Tech-Garrard Co. ATC Carpentry Program Playhouse - For Sale

Ky. Tech-Garrard Co. ATC Carpentry Program

Playhouse - For Sale

The students in the Carpentry Program at Ky. Tech-Garrard Co. ATC have constructed a playhouse suitable for all ages to enjoy anytime of the year.  The playhouse is furnished with working electricity, two dormer sky lights as well as furniture that was hand made by our students including a picnic table, two youth sized chairs and a two person bench.  It is also weatherproof with a commercial grade shingle roof, a stained deck and the outside is painted hunter green with white “soup can” trim for the kid in all of us.  The interior walls are finished with knotty pine and carpet on the floor. This isn’t your average “cookie cutter” playhouse it has a character that you can’t find anywhere else.  This is the latest project our students are working on to help raise money for their program due to budget cuts.  Proceeds from this project will go directly in the Carpentry program for similar projects in the future.  The playhouse will fit on a standard 12 x 8 trailer, and we will help you load. The price for this completely handmade playhouse is $3500.  The first person to bring a check to the Garrard ATC will be the proud new owner. Sorry no holds.  For more information please contact Mike Oakley at 792-2144 between 7:30a and 3:30p.
