GCHS

Garrard County High School has made history, earning a Blue (Very High) rating on the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) for the first time ever. The achievement places GCHS among the top 13% of public high schools statewide and reflects significant academic progress across the school.

The 2026 KSA results show substantial increases in student proficiency in both reading and mathematics. Reading proficiency rose from 43% to 60%, a 17 percentage point increase, while mathematics proficiency increased from 38% to 50%, a 12 percentage point gain. The school also saw major reductions in the percentage of students performing at the novice level in both subjects.

The historic achievement called for a celebration of its own. GCHS staff marked the occasion with blue silly string and blue cake, celebrating the hard work, collaboration, and dedication behind the school's progress.

These results reflect the intentional, collaborative work taking place throughout GCHS to strengthen curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Teachers and school leaders have focused on implementing effective instructional strategies, providing students with rigorous, standards-aligned learning experiences, and challenging students to think critically and demonstrate deeper understanding.

Beyond academic performance, GCHS has continued to prioritize student connectedness and belonging. Creating an environment where students feel supported, engaged, and connected to their school is an important part of ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.

The progress reflected in the 2026 KSA results is not the result of a single initiative or moment. It represents an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, collaborative planning, data-informed decisions, and consistent, high-quality instruction.

Garrard County Schools is proud of the progress made by the students, teachers, and staff at GCHS. While earning a Blue rating marks a significant milestone for the Golden Lions, the focus remains on building upon this success and ensuring every student continues to grow, succeed, and reach their full potential.

At GCHS, this historic achievement is a milestone in the work, not the finish line.
