Garrard County Schools Announces 2026 Hall of Fame Class

LANCASTER, KY — Garrard County Schools is proud to announce the 2026 inductees to the Garrard County Schools Hall of Fame. This year’s class features five outstanding individuals who have distinguished themselves through exceptional achievement, leadership, and service.

Representing achievements in education, military service, business, athletic leadership, community service, and the arts, this year’s honorees exemplify the values of excellence, dedication, integrity, and service that define the spirit of Garrard County Schools.

“The Hall of Fame was created to recognize individuals whose lives reflect the very best of Garrard County,” said Dr. Kevin Stull, Superintendent of Garrard County Schools. “This year’s inductees exemplify excellence, service, and dedication across many fields, and we are proud to honor the impact they have made and continue to make in their communities.”

“The accomplishments of this year’s Hall of Fame class provide a powerful example for our students,” said Dr. Kalem Grasham, incoming Superintendent of Garrard County Schools. “Their stories reflect the impact of dedication, service, and commitment. We are proud to recognize their continued connection to our district.”

The 2026 Hall of Fame Inductees are:

Ben Arnold – Internationally recognized music scholar, author, pianist, and educator whose work on music, war, and composer Franz Liszt has earned global recognition. Arnold currently serves as Director of the University of Kentucky School of Music and has contributed extensively to music research, performance, and higher education leadership.

Brigadier General Ronnie S. Barnes – Distinguished military leader with more than 30 years of service in the Kentucky Army National Guard and the United States military. Currently serving as Comptroller for the National Guard Bureau, Barnes oversees a $35 billion budget and has earned numerous military honors, including the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star Medal.

Ken Hurt – Distinguished coach, educator, and athletic leader whose influence on Garrard County athletics and education spans more than six decades. A member of both the 12th Region Boys and Girls Basketball Halls of Fame, Hurt built championship programs and shaped the district’s athletic identity while also serving as a classroom teacher, school administrator, and member of the Garrard County Board of Education. Through coaching, instruction, and leadership, he has impacted generations of student-athletes and students across the district.

Danny Irvin – Respected real estate professional, auctioneer, community leader, and philanthropist whose career has spanned nearly six decades. A Kentucky Auctioneer Hall of Fame inductee and recipient of the Kentucky Auctioneers Association Lifetime Achievement Award, Irvin has dedicated his life to serving clients, supporting charitable causes, and strengthening the Garrard County community.

Tommie Mae Francis Merritt – Influential educator whose dedication to students and learning shaped education in Garrard County for more than 50 years. From her service at Mason School to her work at Garrard County High School, Merritt's commitment to children and academic excellence left a legacy that continues to inspire educators and students today.

These individuals will be honored at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet, which will be held on July 27 at Garrard County High School. The event will include a formal recognition ceremony highlighting each inductee’s accomplishments, contributions, and longstanding connection to Garrard County Schools.

Now in its second year, the Garrard County Schools Hall of Fame continues to recognize distinguished alumni, former staff members, and community leaders whose achievements and service reflect the values and traditions of the district. Through their accomplishments, this year’s inductees have demonstrated a commitment to excellence that continues to inspire current and future generations of Golden Lions.

Each year, a new class of inductees is selected to preserve and celebrate the stories of those who have helped shape the legacy of Garrard County Schools.
